Prior to the game's events, Xander has already been summoned by Veronica, the princess and leader of the Emblian Empire, and set as a lieutenant. While most Heroes are forced to fight the Order of Heroes due to their contract with the Empire of Embla, Xander is the only character to serve Veronica of his own volition and out of sympathy for her. He also taught her how to ride a horse, as did Bruno.
Xander is first seen ordered by Veronica to kill the summoner in the prologue, but is defeated and both escape the battle. Xander is seen and fought again in the World of Conquest, both at the beginning and at the end, getting his contract broken with Veronica. Despite this, he remains loyal to Veronica and escapes.

- This hero's Japanese name is マークス (Marks, romanized as Maakusu).
- Garon's son by his first wife, Katerina.
- Half-brother to Camilla, Leo, and Elise. He is also the stepbrother of Azura and Corrin.
- Siegbert's father.
