Description | Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count-1). Unit can counterattack regardless of foe's range. Foes with Range = 1 cannot move through spaces adjacent to unit (does not affect foes with Pass skills). Foes with Range = 2 cannot move through spaces within 2 spaces of unit (does not affect foes with Pass skills). For allies within 3 spaces of unit, grants Spd/Def+4 during combat, and also, when foe's attack triggers foe's Special, reduces damage from foe's attacks by 10 during that ally's combat (excluding area-of-effect Specials). If unit is within 3 spaces of an ally, grants bonus to unit's Atk/Spd/Def/Res = 5 + 15% of unit's Def at start of combat, and neutralizes foe's bonuses (from skills like Fortify, Rally, etc.) during combat, and also, when foe's attack triggers foe's Special, reduces damage from foe's attacks by 10 during combat (excluding area-of-effect Specials). |

- Desert Spear has the same effect as Distant Counter.
- Desert Spear affects Charge, regular movement, and non-warping Canto effects; warping is unaffected.
- A unit can warp to a space regardless of whether a path that is not blocked by Desert Spear exists between the unit and the destination.
- A unit can warp to a space adjacent to a foe with Desert Spear active.
- Desert Spear only prevents movement through affected spaces.
- Desert Spear does not affect foes with a Pass effect or sources of unit movement.
- If Smite could move an ally 2 spaces away, it always does so regardless of whether a foe with Desert Spear is adjacent to the space in the middle.
- A unit can attack a foe with Desert Spear and then leave the space with Hit and Run, Close Call 4, or a Canto effect.
- The stat increase that can be applied by Desert Spear is considered a temporary buff.
- The damage-reduction effect is a flat -10 damage that is calculated after offensive Specials, damage boosting effects such as Arcane Lúin and Dominance, and "reduces damage by X%" effects such as Gust and Dodge.
- If a skill such as Miracle or Everliving Domain can trigger, the damage-reduction effect will not trigger and the user will still survive with only 1 HP.
- Flat damage-reduction effects stack additively, similar to interactions related to the weapon-triangle, such as Triangle Adept and the weapon-triangle advantage boost.
- Flat damage-reduction effects cannot be neutralized or reduced by effects such as Share Spoils or Halves non-Special damage reduction.

- The temporary buffs and damage reduction of Desert Spear will not apply to the user's allies if the user is inflicted with Time's Grip, the user's allies are inflicted with Feud, or the user's allies are in combat against a foe with skills such as Impenetrable Void and C Feud 3.
- A stat comparison made "At start of combat" ignores temporary buffs and temporary debuffs.
- Temporary buffs and temporary debuffs from skills such as Death Blow and Rauðrfox+ will not affect the outcome.
- Only stat boosts outside of combat, such as Bonuses and Penalties, will affect the outcome.
- Desert Spear can neutralize Bonuses during combat.
- Bonuses are neutralized by inflicting temporary debuffs of the same amount during combat.
- The Bonus neutralizing effect will be negated if the affected unit has Panic (and doesn't have Null Panic), or has their Bonuses removed by a source of positive status effect neutralization.
