The stat increase that can be applied by Close Salvo is considered a combat boost.
If unit attacked means if the wielder attacked at any time during combat. They do not need to initiate combat, deal damage, or survive.
- This means that if the foe initiates combat and the user cannot counterattack, the effect will not activate.

Close Salvo inflicts out of combat damage.
- Out of combat damage cannot reduce a unit's HP to 0.
- A foe equipped with Embla's Ward, Múspellflame, or Niðavellir Axiom will neutralize all sources of out of combat damage except Røkkr area-of-effect Specials.
- A foe equipped with Røkkr or a unit affected by En Garde will neutralize all sources of out of combat damage except area-of-effect Specials.
Close Salvo stacks with after-combat healing from skills such as Mystic Boost 3.
- For example, if a unit has both Fury and Mystic Boost, Fury 1 + Mystic Boost 2 = +2 HP, Fury 3 + Mystic Boost 3 = 0 HP, and Fury 4 + Mystic Boost 3 = -2 HP.
