Edelgard
...

Dimitri
...

Claude
So. How about this weather?
Sharena
Is it me, or has it gotten really tense
here all of a sudden?

Claude
Really? I hadn't noticed. What could
possibly have these two so worked
up, I wonder?

Lysithea
You can drop the act, Claude.
This isn't Fódlan.

Are we really going to insist on
dragging Fódlan's conflict into Askr?

Edelgard
No. Lysithea has a point. There is no
good reason for us to fight one
another in this world.

Dimitri
I suppose the change does render
our old grudges rather irrelevant.

Claude
Spoken just like the Dimitri I... Nope,
can't get through it with a straight
face. When did you learn to relax?

Edelgard
I must admit, I share his surprise.
You are a completely different person
than the Dimitri I faced in battle.

Dimitri
I shudder to think what became
of me in your worlds.

In my Fódlan, the Kingdom of
Faerghus defeated the Adrestian
Empire, and I was crowned king.

Claude
Yeah, that's...not what happened
in mine.

And I'll bet the Empire was victorious
in your Fódlan, wasn't it, Princess?
Or should I say Your Majesty?

Edelgard
Yes, it was. But victory did not come
by my strength alone. My teacher
was always at my side.

The war in your world must have
gone well for the Leicester Alliance,
Claude. Did you become king?

Lysithea
The Alliance did win the war, and we
did establish a new unified kingdom
of Fódlan.

Claude didn't rule it, though. He went
back home to Almyra and lived as
royalty there.

Dimitri
Claude is Almyran royalty?

How can that be? Were you not
the heir to House Riegan?

Claude
We can talk out little details like that
another time. For now, I have a favor
to ask of the both of you.

First, why don't we stop giving
Princess Sharena a headache and
call a truce for our stay in Askr?

Sharena
Yes, please! I'm all for that. We can't
have the Heroes fighting each other.

Dimitri
I understand that our purpose here is
to defend the people of Askr.
With that in mind...I accept.

Edelgard
As do I. To be at one another's
throats now would be counter
to all our goals.

Claude
Great to hear. There's just one more
tiny little wrinkle.

There are other versions of us here.
Versions who are five years younger.

Edelgard
You're joking.

Claude
Afraid I'm not. So let's all keep clear
of them, OK? It's for the best we not
talk to them about...well, anything.

Hilda
Have you heard, Claude?! There's
another version of you in Askr!
From the future!

Not just you, either.I heard ther are
a few others—all five years older
than any of us!

Claude
Yeah, I heard—from Prince Alfonse
himself, no less. Sources don't get
much more credible than that.

Lysithea
I heard there's an older one of me
as well.

Hilda
I haven't heard about there being a
future me here. She's probably busy
relaxing on a beach or something...

But you must be curious, Lysithea!
A lot can happen in five years. Did
you get a chance to talk to her at all?

Lysithea
I haven't seen her anywhere. Not
around the castle, not at the training
grounds, not on deployment...

But that's OK. To be honest, I'm not
that interested in learning about
my future self.

Knowing I'm alive five years from now
is more than enough for me.

Hilda
Sure, but...you're not even a teensy
bit curious? What about you, Claude?

Claude
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't.

On the other hand...I can guess at
a few pretty good reasons to keep
us in the dark.

Mercedes
I can't even begin to imagine what
I'll be like five years from now.

Annette
That's OK, Mercie, I'll picture it for
you. Oooh, you look amazing!

Mercedes
Thank you so much! I'm sure you'll
look every bit as good, Annie.

Annette
I don't know about that. But I do
know I'll be working hard as ever.

I can't wait to see what a great king
you'll be in five years, Your Highness!

Dimitri
...

Annette
Um, Your Highness? Did I say
something wrong?

Dimitri
Ah, no. Of course not. Forgive me.

I look forward to accepting the
responsibility of governing Faerghus.

Five years... Five years from now...

Hubert
Urgent news, Lady Edelgard.

It seems [Summoner] has
summoned you to this world
from five years in the future.

Edelgard
So it's true...

No matter. Whatever has happened
with the Empire in those five years
is of no concern to me here and now.

Nothing about this situation changes
any of my decisions...or the path
that lies ahead of me.

Hubert
As I thought. In that case, please
allow me to continue to shadow
your every step along that path.

Edelgard
Thank you, Hubert.

Dimitri
Claude... May I have a word?

Claude
Hey, no need to be so hesitant.
We're old dining hall pals, you know.

We won't let one little war get in the
way of that, will we?

Dimitri
The years haven't changed you a bit.
The old tree may look changed, but
The roots are the same as ever.

Claude
I could say the same about you,
couldn't I? Anyway, what's this word
you're after?

Dimitri
Upon reflection, I'm not sure it's wise
to hide the truth of what happened
five years ago from our other selves.

To hide from them what will occur
at Garreg Mach... What will happen
to the professor...

Claude
Honestly, my friend... I had my
reservations about keeping this
from the professor as well.

To hide it from myself is one thing,
but Teach...

Let's just say I didn't expect a past
version of Teach to be here as well.

Dimitri
Our professor might have the power
to avert that tragedy...to save so
many lives that were lost.

Lysithea
He has a point, Claude.

Claude
Maybe.

Lysithea
Don't you think we should take this
opportunity to prevent a war?

This might even be the reason we
were brought to Askr to begin with.

Edelgard
...

Claude
Don't be shy, Your Majesty.
Join the party.

Edelgard
Whether we tell them or not makes
no difference at all.

All three of us had at least some idea
five years ago about what was going
to occur in Fódlan.

Dimitri
...

Edelgard
If I had five years ago seen myself
as I am now, it would have only
hardened my resolve.

Whether you tell them the truth or
not, our pasts and their futures
will remain the same.

Claude
Maybe you're right. Even so...I still
think there may be value in keeping
this knowledge from them.

There's another possibility that we
haven't considered yet.

Dimitri
Another possibility?

Claude
That's right.

From five years ago to today, each of
us has done what we thought was
best for the situation.

Right or wrong, we each played our
hand with the cards we were dealt.

That much is set in stone.

Lysithea
Can't argue with that.

Claude
So, even if we talked to our past
selves now and tried to convince
them to change...they wouldn't.

Edelgard
Precisely.

I have chosen my path, and I will
never stop fighting for what
I believe in.

Claude
True. But there's one advantage
these past versions of us have
that we didn't five years ago.

Dimitri
Askr. They have Askr.

Claude
Right on, Tempest King! And how
they learn and grow while they're in
Askr could change everything.

Lysithea
So you're saying Fódlan could turn
out differently based on how things
go here...

Claude
Maybe. I'm at least saying that I don't
want any of my actions here to ruin
the possibility.

For that reason, I think we should all
take a step back and trust our old
selves to work things out.

Of course...that includes Teach.

Lysithea
I don't think spending time in Askr
is likely to change anything, but...

It's not impossible.

Dimitri
A future that none of us had the
opportunity to experience... Even
the mere possibility of it is staggering.

Edelgard
My path will not be so easily altered.

Even so... It is possible that there is
a solution to Fódlan's problems
that I haven't discovered.

Claude
Our other selves may just light the
way to a whole new future.

Sharena
Hey, everyone! Finally found you!
Just wanted to let you know that
training's about to start.

Claude
Ah, the irresistible call of routine
training. This takes me back.

What do you say the Black Eagles,
Blue Lions, and Golden Deer have a
little competition, for old times' sake?

Dimitri
It would feel strange to step back
into the role of class leader after
ruling a nation.

Then again, why not? I'll showcase
the lance skills passed down to me
by my father.

Edelgard
If for no other reason than to show
my teacher how much I've grown...
I accept. But I will not hold back.

Claude
It's decided then. Come on, Lysithea!

Lysithea
Just like that?! You are as immature
and impulsive as ever...

Sharena
Nice to see everyone getting along.
I was worried for a while there.

Lysithea
Well, at least we're able to act like old
friends. That might be all we can
hope for.

But seeing it does make me wonder...
What could have been?

If our time at the monastery was
never interrupted by war... If our
paths continued on from there...

Could we have arrived at an entirely
new future?

Fjorm
Hello? Lysithea? Hmm... It seems
she isn't here either.

The size of the castle library never
fails to astound me. It does not look
so enormous from the outside...

Fjorm
Ah! Hello, Merric!

Merric
Nice to see you, Princess Fjorm.
Are you here to study as well?

Fjorm
Actually, I was just looking for
Lysithea. I heard she was here.

Lute
I saw her in the botanical section.

Canas
Quite the studious one, she is.
Of late, not a day goes by that I fail
to see her somewhere in the library.

Fjorm
Thank you, Lute. And you too, Canas.
I will check the botanical section.

Lysithea
Interesting... The succulents in Askr
have evolved in an entirely different
way from the ones in Fódlan...

Wait, this encyclopedia comes from
another world entirely. How did they
even get this to Askr?

Fjorm
There you are, Lysithea!

Lysithea
Hm? Oh—Princess Fjorm. Did you
need something from me?

Fjorm
No, nothing like that. I was worried
about you. You were not in the mess
hall last night or this morning...

Lysithea
Sorry to worry you. Sometimes I get
so distracted by my studies that
I miss a meal.

Wait, did you say last night? Have I
been in here an entire day?

Fjorm
Yes, it...does seem that a full day has
passed since you came in here.

Lysithea
I suppose I've been unusually
absorbed in this material.

This library is a treasure trove of
knowledge. I could spend my whole
life here and only scratch the surface.

Fjorm
Considering how many basement
levels this library has...you might be
literally right about that.

Even so, there is no need to push
yourself so hard, Lysithea. Proper
rest and nourishment are important.

Lysithea
I suppose so. Thank you for the
reminder, Princess Fjorm.

I was...in the library, and...
Fjorm
You did not show up for training,
so I came to look for you, and...

Gaius
You were out cold. Books don't make
great pillows, but that didn't stop you
from trying.

Here, have some sugar. I put together
a little gift basket of Askran sweets
for you.

Lysithea
Oh... Oh wow! These look marvelous.
Thank you.

How did you know about my love
of sweets? Oh—wait, don't tell me.

You heard it from my younger self,
didn't you?

Fjorm
I did. Gaius is an expert on the
subject, so I asked him to select his
favorites and bring them to you.

Gaius
The sugar will give you a boost now,
but it's important to eat your meals
too if you actually want to feel better.

I'll let you take it from here,
Princess Fjorm.

Fjorm
Thank you very much, Gaius.

Lysithea
Mmm... Flaky on the outside, fluffy
on the inside... These pastries are

And this cake?! Aaah, the frosting

Fjorm
Umm... I'm glad you like them, but
please don't eat them all at once...
Fjorm
I don't mean to pry, Lysithea, but...
Don't you think you might be
overdoing it a little?

Your dedication to your studies is
truly admirable, but you need to
take care of yourself too.

Lysithea
Thanks for your concern, but...

I push myself this hard because
I need to.

Fjorm
I don't understand.

Lysithea
This isn't my favorite conversation
topic, but after all you did for me,
I guess you deserve an explanation.

In Fódlan, some people are marked
by the power of Sothis, the
progenitor god.

A person born with that power is said
to bear what's called a Crest.

Fjorm
Yes, I have heard of these Crests.
Edelgard, Claude, and Dimitri bear
them as well, right?

They say those who bear Crests
are capable of marvelous things.

Lysithea
Correct. Usually, a person can only
bear one Crest. But in rare cases,
it is possible to bear two.

I am one such case, and...there are
side effects.

I have been told that, because of my
second Crest, I will not be able to
live a long life.

Fjorm

Lysithea
I've accepted that I'll have less time
in this life than most.

I want to accomplish something
meaningful with the time I do have.
To make my parents proud.

To that end, I can't afford to relax
or take it easy. I need results
as quickly as I can get them.

Fjorm
I understand now. Perhaps too well.

My situation is...similar.

Lysithea
It is? What do you mean?

Fjorm
Ah...well...

I once performed a rite in order
to save my homeland.

As part of that rite, I...gave my life up
as an offering.

Lysithea
You what?

Fjorm
My life could end at any moment.

To be honest, I am quite surprised
to have made it this long.

Lysithea
Princess Fjorm... I never would
have known.

You always seem so calm. I never
get the sense you're in a hurry.

How can you live such a normal life
knowing it could end at any time?

Fjorm
It seemed impossible at first.

The decision to sacrifice myself to
save my country was an easy one
when I made it, but...

It is almost worse, being allowed
more time than I expected, because
now I...don't want to die.

To know that I'll have to say goodbye
to all those I've come to love here...
My heart can barely stand it.

For a time, all I could think was...not
today. Please, not today. Let me
stay a little longer.

Lysithea
...

Fjorm
Over time, I've begun to think of each
day as a gift. Every moment I'm alive
feels like a wonderful surprise.

For that reason, it's all I can do to be
grateful for each moment...and to use
the opportunity to make others smile.

When the end finally comes, I don't
want my last memories to be of fear.
I want my last thoughts to be happy.

Lysithea
That's...quite profound, Princess
Fjorm. You have a kind heart.

Fjorm
I don't know how long I will be able
to go on living.

But for as long as I am here, I intend

I know that it's the same for you, and
I know that your studies are very

Canas
Lysithea proposed that we combine

Lute
My brilliance is typically sufficient on

You know, Commander Anna...
The more I think of it, the more you

You're sure you've never been to

doesn't ring a bell?

Anna
Of course I know it! Never been there
though, despite every student of the
Officers Academy asking me that.

Anna
Your merchant and I may look alike,
and even have the same name, but
we're different people.

Claude
Be that as it may... I've got a favor
to ask, if you're feeling charitable.

Anna
How can I help?

Claude
Askr's home to all sorts of Heroes,
but I'm looking to get acquainted
with a certain kind.

I'm looking for those who'll do what
it takes to win no matter what. Who
won't balk at unusual methods.

Anna
We've definitely got some people
who favor unconventional tactics.
I can introduce you to a few.

Eccentric tactics usually come from
eccentric people, though. You going
to be OK with that?

Claude
That's perfect, actually. Wouldn't
have it any other way.

Don't get me wrong, I know standard
tactics are standard for a reason.
And there's honor in fighting fair.

But Askr's a diverse place. There are
bound to be ideas kicking around

To waste such a learning opportunity
would be incredibly foolish of me.

Narcian
Naturally! The dauntless strength and

You are obviously a man of taste.
Allow me to share with you but a
small portion of my greatness.

Listen well. To attack one's enemy
head-on is the height of foolishness.
No need for such pointless risks.

To achieve victory, one must entirely
obliterate one's foe without any
tarnish upon one's own magnificence.

Claude
Of course. That stands to reason.

Narcian
To that end, a weapon in hand, no
matter how skillfully wielded, is never
as effective as a silver tongue.

Persuade your enemies to betray
their allies, and you weaken their
forces while padding your own.

Claude
Sounds efficient.

Narcian
Very much so! There's nothing better
than expendable fodder!

Speaking of fodder, always ensure
you have disposable underlings to
assume blame for every mistake.

In this way, you make certain that
not even the smallest failure can ever
besmirch your reputation.

Not that I, Narcian, ever have need of
such things. Narcian is without flaw.
Still...Narcian is always prepared.

Claude
That's pretty sharp. I agree that
preparation is key.

Thanks, Narcian. This has been
very educational.

Iago
You want to learn strategy from me?

Claude
That's right. I've heard you're the
most shrewd general in Nohr.
King Garon's finest, they say.

Iago
Heh. At its heart, it's a simple thing.
The one left standing at the end is
the victor. All else is irrelevant.

No matter what world you fight in,
that basic truth is the same.

Claude
Makes sense to me. The dead don't
protest, at least.

Iago
Precisely. Survival is all that matters,
so you can't afford to be picky
about your methods.

And since survival is all we care
about, the best outcome is to defeat
your enemy without fighting at all.

To do that, deceive them into fighting
with themselves and each other.
Trick them into traps and ambushes.

Sow enough confusion, and you can
walk away from the battle without
so much as sullying your own hands.

Claude
Pulling off a stunt like that requires
careful preparation, I'll bet.

Iago
Oh, yes. The careful spread of
misinformation is essential to making
your enemies doubt each other.

From there, a few artfully placed
illusions will have them tearing
each other apart in no time.

Claude
That's clever.

Iago
Another important component of
victory is remaining focused at all
times on the objective.

To that end, you can't afford to get
distracted by petty things like saving
civilian lives.

If you lose, they're dead anyway.
Better to sacrifice them to win...not
that such tactics are permitted here.

Claude
No? Well, I see where you're
coming from. This has been
a big help.

Thanks, Iago. It's clear to me you'd
do whatever it takes to secure
victory. I respect that.

Claude

Gangrel

Yeah. Now let me ask you something.

Claude
Me? I'm the student here. I'm afraid
I don't have much wisdom to offer.

Gangrel
Cut the act! I'm not falling for it.
You've been going around asking
lots of these questions lately.

Bwa ha ha! I don't buy that for

No, these wicked ideas are already

Claude

I think it'd be a shame if you were

Claude

Alfonse
Greetings, Emperor Edelgard. I trust
you are adjusting well to life in Askr?

Edelgard
Prince Alfonse. Actually, there is not
much adjustment to be made. Askr is
little different from Fódlan.

The most significant change is that
I no longer concern myself with the
day-to-day governance of my empire.

Alfonse
I've had the pleasure of observing
your training. Truly, your strength
is a sight to behold.

It was clear to me at a glance how
hard you have worked to hone
your technique.

I imagine the power of Fódlan's
Crests is a contributing factor as well.

Edelgard
Perhaps.

How much do you know about
Crests, Prince Alfonse?

Alfonse
I have heard that they were bestowed
upon the early heroes of Fódlan
by their goddess.

Edelgard
That is what is commonly told.

It is said that the 10 Elites received
these Crests and passed them down
through their bloodlines.

Because of that, the presence or
absence of a Crest became a factor
in determining social status.

Crests have been responsible for the
rise and fall of entire families.

Alfonse
It is interesting to me that bearing
a Crest carries so many implications.

While Fódlan's situation is unique,
many of the Heroes here have dealt
with their own issues of lineage.

It is all too common to hear that the
mark of one's birth can be quite
the burden to bear.

Edelgard
I would very much like to speak
with such Heroes.

Perhaps you could give me a few
of their names?

Alfonse
Certainly.

Edelgard
Thank you. The matter of lineage
happens to be of great personal
interest to me.

Lissa
That's right! Some of us, anyway.

The Brand proves our lineage comes
from the First Exalt who sealed the
Fell Dragon 1,000 years ago.

Edelgard
Yet despite being a descendant of
this First Exalt yourself, you do not

Lissa
Right! My sister and brother were

Edelgard
Forgive me. It was not my intention

Lissa
No, it's OK. Don't apologize.

It used to bother me, but I realized
that dwelling on it isn't going to
change anything.

Edelgard
Has lacking this Brand caused you
much trouble?

Lissa
No, I wouldn't say that.

I've never felt like I was lesser or
weaker for not having it.

What bothered me was the fear
that I didn't belong.

Edelgard
That makes sense.

By the same token, I imagine your
brother and sister did not have a say
in whether they received the Brand.

Lissa
Well, no, but...our family is said to be
guided by the goddess herself!
Why wouldn't they want it?

Edelgard
To be forced to bear the burdens of
royalty and destiny, to be thrown into
danger...all because of your birth?

Surely a princess can understand
why some might resent being forced
into such circumstances...

But have you ever stopped to wonder

Lissa
Umm... I guess I haven't thought
about it very much.

Now that you mention it, my brother
and sister were both put in danger
because of their Brands.

But they've also been given the
power to save so many lives!

Looking at the full picture, I'd say
I'm pretty grateful to the goddess.

You've inherited some power from
your bloodline too, haven't you,
Edelgard? Something called a Crest?

Edelgard
Correct.

Lissa
And that power's helped you save
a lot of lives as well, hasn't it?

Edelgard
Perhaps.

The Crest I've borne since birth has
given me some degree of power.

But I also bear a second Crest.
One that was...inflicted upon me
by other methods.

My Crests are the product of a world
in which the mark of a goddess
determines a person's worth.

That is what such a world is bound
to produce. Hideous strength
like mine.

Lissa
You think your strength is...hideous?

Edelgard
...

Thank you for speaking with me,
Princess Lissa. I will take my leave.

Lissa
Edelgard? I know I said this already,
but I think it's worth repeating.

I don't begrudge the goddess for

I don't begrudge her for the burden

I am glad to see you are doing well.

After our last conversation, I spoke

Lissa
Oh! Yeah, those two from Valentia
have something similar to the Brand
that runs in my family.

Edelgard
I asked them, just as I asked you,
whether they felt any resentment
toward their gods because of it.

Their answers were the same
as yours.

All I spoke to expressed the same
sentiment. The power to save lives
always outweighed the burden.

Lissa
Yep! That's exactly how I feel.

Edelgard
My belief has always been that it
should be people, and not their gods,
who decide the fate of the world.

For certain individuals to be forced
into power and duty from birth... For
them to be elevated above others...

It is a broken system, and I want
to see it abolished.

Lissa
Ah...

Edelgard
Being in Askr has not changed my
feelings, but it has shown me that
many feel differently.

Alm, Celica, the royal family of
Ylisse... None of you have resented
your lineage.

Instead, you have used the power
granted to you to help your people.

I suppose, in these cases, we should
at least be grateful that power has
been bestowed upon good people.

Lissa
Of course!

I would say that power on its own
isn't good or bad. It all comes down
to who's wielding it.

It's true that being born into power
is a huge responsibility. That's all
the more reason to use it wisely!

The world's a big and complicated
place, after all.

Edelgard
It is indeed.

Thank you, Princess Lissa. You have
given me much to think about.

I see I must look beyond my own
experiences if I am to learn all I can
about the potential of people.

Lissa
And the potential of gods! Some of
them have even come to Askr in
